After losing to Daniel Dubois in December, Jarrell Miller returns to the ring this weekend to take on Andy Ruiz Jr. in a big heavyweight tilt, live on DAZN.
Suffering his first pro loss made the 36-year-old Miller (26-1-1, 22 KOs) re-evaluate things, making his weight and conditioning priorities for this fight camp in preparation for Ruiz (35-2, 22 KOs), the former unified heavyweight world champion.
"We dropped 40 pounds for this fight," Miller revealed during a recent interview with DAZN. "The main thing was just putting myself through hell."
That said, a convincing win over Ruiz and "Big Baby" will certainly have the hunger for more with a couple of targeted fights in mind.
"I would definitely love the Dubois rematch. Of course, he has 'AJ' coming up," Miller said, referring to Dubois vs. Anthony Joshua on September 21, live on DAZN.
Facing either would grant Miller with a shot at redemption as Dubois handed him a 10th-round TKO loss, while he and Joshua were supposed to fight in 2019 before Miller squandered the opportunity via a failed drug test.
If he can't fight the winner of Dubois-Joshua, Miller has another opponent in mind — undefeated Jared "The Real Big Baby" Anderson who is fighting Martin Bakole on the same card as him and Ruiz this weekend.
"If Anderson gets past his opponent, which I don't think he will, I would like the Anderson 'Battle of the Big Baby' because his nickname is really the cryer baby," Miller additionally offered.
"There's definitely a couple of one or two fights that can definitely keep us busy before we can get a title shot."
