Josh Cordina explained how he won the IBF super featherweight belt on Saturday night.
The Welshman delivered a spectacular second-round knockout to defending champion, Japanese fighter Kenichi Ogawa.
Reflecting on the events of the weekend, Cordina was not quite ready to consider what it meant, but could recall how he set up his opponent for defeat.
“I haven't slept since Friday,” he said on the DAZN Boxing Show . “I’m still buzzing from last year. I don’t think it’s quite sunk in yet, what I’ve done. In front of my home support and to knock out the champion in the fashion I did. It’s an amazing feeling.
“It was the same shot I hit Joshua Hernandez with. Look down to the body, and the right hand, when you’re coming up, you're putting your whole body through it. It feels lovely, it doesn’t hurt, it’s an unbelievable feeling.
“As I‘ve gone to the corner I've looked and saw his head bounce off the floor and I knew it was done.
“I said if I knock him down he won’t make the round... As soon as he started jabbing I started jabbing, and I caught him first.”
