Joe Joyce has called for a summer showdown with Tyson Fury as he looks to prove that he’s the world’s best heavyweight.
Joyce has long been demanding the biggest fights at heavyweight but first he must deal with the threat of Zhilei Zhang who he faces this weekend, as he looks to maintain his unbeaten run against the Chinese puncher.
If successful, Joyce will maintain his lofty position with the WBO as he holds their interim title and although he could maybe force a fight with their full champion, Oleksandr Usyk, it’s Fury that Joyce wants next.
With Fury and Usyk failing to secure a deal to face each other, Joyce may get his wish and challenge his compatriot later this year.
“I’m hoping for that fight,” Joyce told BoxingScene.com. “Me and Tyson Fury would be a great British summer fight.
“That’s why I’m fighting a southpaw now because I’m getting prepared for one of these title fights, Usyk or Tyson Fury. I’m ready. With Fury, it’s a massive fight. Everyone wants to see it. It’s a great fight in the making.”
