John Ryder may not have a British or world title to his name, but he has made himself a recognisable name in world boxing.
'The Gorilla' has endured a rollercoaster career with many ups and downs, and with losses to the likes of Nick Blackwell and Rocky Fielding in British title fights, it would have been easy for Ryder to hang up the gloves.
However, these setbacks have not stopped Ryder from striving for fights with the biggest names, and whenever he has been placed in world title fights against fellow Brit Callum Smith or Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez, Ryder has risen to the occasion and given a good account of himself.
DAZN takes a look at the career of John Ryder below.
What is John Ryder's professional record?
John Ryder boasts a 32-6 record in the professional ranks with 18 of those wins coming by way of knockout.
Championships
John Ryder has two world title challenges under his belt.
The first came against Callum Smith in November 2019 for the WBA world super middleweight, before taking on the undisputed champion at 168lbs Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez in May 2023.
In both fights, Ryder came up short losing to both Smith and Alvarez on points.
Biggest Wins
Ryder overcomes Jacobs in tough 12-round contest; February 12, 2022
When the experienced Daniel Jacobs arrived in London to take on John Ryder, it was clear that it was a must-win for both men if they wanted any hope of getting a world title shot.
However, things did not to go to plan for Ryder with Jacobs seizing control of the fight despite not throwing any meaningful shots.
Ryder finally began to hurt his opponent in the seventh, while Jacobs retreated into his shell and did not show the assertive style which gave him any early foothold.
The closely fought contest went to the judges' scorecards and it was Ryder who was given the victory via a split decision, proving that 'The Gorilla' was able to share the ring with some of the super middleweight division's biggest names.
