Nearly five years ago, Jorge Masvidal defeated Nate Diaz via third-round doctor's stoppage to win the inaugural BMF title. But that was in the confines of a UFC Octagon.
On Saturday night, live on DAZN, they'll fight in a boxing match. And already, Masvidal believes he might have an edge up on the competition thanks to Canelo Alvarez. The boxing legend actually bestowed some sweet science gems to Masvidal ahead of his fight against Diaz.
"Canelo actually f—ing gave me great advice," Masvidal told media members, as reported by Fight Hub TV.
"Actually a lot of what he told me was things that he's done in every one of his last 20, 30 fights," he continued. "So it was awesome to hear him break it down from his own mouth and then tell me, break it down in a way that I could apply and use it for myself. As soon as he told me, I was like 'man, that's awesome.' He didn't have to do that at all. He didn't have to tell me a damn word because who the f—k am I?"
Masvidal had even posted about their meeting and Canelo giving him pointers back in May via his Instagram account.
Diaz's stab at boxing resulted in a unanimous decision loss to Jake Paul last August.
