As swarming of a forward-fighting boxer as Isaac "Pitbull" Cruz can be, Jose Valenzuela just might have an equalizer to deal with the WBA junior welterweight champion's force this weekend, live on DAZN.
At least that's what Valenzuela's trainer Robert Garcia believes. The veteran trainer thinks Valenzuela's punching power can be a difference-maker Saturday night in Los Angeles.
"'Rayo' might be the hardest puncher that 'Pitbull's' ever faced," Garcia recently told Boxing King Media.
"Maybe not harder than Gervonta [Davis]," he continued, referring to 'Tank' who defeated Cruz by unanimous decision in December 2021. "But Gervonta 'Tank' Davis against 'Pitbull,' from what I understand, [Davis] had his hand pretty hurt. 'Pitbull' was able to take his punch but 'Pitbull' didn't get hit with a solid punch from 'Tank.'
That's where Valenzuela could test Cruz.
"If 'Rayo' lands, I think 'Rayo' can hurt him with his punch because 'Rayo' hits very hard," Garcia offered. "So those are things I'm taking advantage of the power, obviously, great conditioning, great boxing skills on the outside.
"So I think we have the tools to beat Cruz. Will it be easy? Definitely not. It's going to be hard.
"'Rayo' has to fight the perfect fight and also has to fight with the heart of a lion, of a warrior because that's what 'Pitbull' is going to bring."
