'Not supposed to be winning!' - Joseph Parker ready to be fly in the ointment for Daniel Dubois plans

'Not supposed to be winning!' - Joseph Parker ready to be fly in the ointment for Daniel Dubois plansMark Robinson / Matchroom Boxing

Joseph Parker knows that he is "not supposed to be winning" against Daniel Dubois at Riyadh Season's The Last Crescendo, live on DAZN Pay-Per-View on February 22.

The New Zealander is bidding to become a two-time world champion at the Kingdom Arena in Saudi Arabia as he chases the Briton's IBF heavyweight world championship.

Dubois however stoked controversy when he stepped into the ring to challenge Oleksandr Usyk to a rematch after the latter's second win over Tyson Fury in December.

Speaking at a media event on Monday, Parker acknowledged that is the fight His Excellency Turki Alalshikh and Frank Warren want, but that he can be a fly in the ointment.

"If you jump in the ring and call out another fighter, it's a big sign that you're overlooking the fight that's in front of you," he told The Stomping Ground

"I know they're planning ahead, and they want the big fights down the line. But you've got to fight what's in front of you. It's the fight Turki wants, it's the fight Warren wants.

"But I'm here to spoil the party. We're not supposed to be winning these fights. We're probably just being chucked in there as an opponent."

Parker previously reigned as WBO champion between 2016 and 2018, and has steadily rebuilt his reputation over the past few years with some impressive victories.

Victory over Dubois would return him to the summit and set up a fascinating 2025 campaign, with the division set for a shakeup following Fury's decision to retire this week.
