Josh Taylor believes he was the winner against Jack Catterall despite misgivings over the decision to award him victory.
The undisputed super lightweight retained all four of his belts in a split decision victory. The decision, however, brought widespread criticism - not just from within Catterall’s team.
However, speaking after the fight, Taylor said that he was the better boxer despite landing fewer punches. He also denied that there would be a rematch after squeezing through.
"I don't think there is any need for a rematch," Taylor said.
Claiming he was the winner because of his efforts in the later rounds, Taylor explained how he came to think that.
"I won in the second half of the fight. I took over and bossed him,” he said.
"I 100 per cent [believed I had done enough to win]. It wasn't my best performance and he caught me with some good shots. I put a lot of pressure on myself and it showed in the first half of the fight but when I found my rhythm I started catching him.
"I know I won the fight."
“Being the heavy favourite, being my first time back at home, put on pressure to put on a good show. It didn’t matter in the end, I got a good result. It was close, I let him have a little too much success by loading up too much, but overall I scored the bigger shots, the better shots, the more meaningful shots.”
