Josh Taylor is planning an assault on the welterweight division. After securing greatness at 140lbs thanks to memorable victories over Regis Prograis and Jose Ramirez, Taylor is ready to achieve similar honours in a bigger weight category.
The talented Scot defends his four world titles against Jack Catterall in February. If the 31-year-old comes through that challenge unscathed then a number of attractive opponents await him at 147lbs. Terence Crawford, Yordenis Ugas and Errol Spence are the current dominant fighters at welterweight and Taylor possesses the desire to test himself there in the near future.
“I’d like to move up to 147 and become a two-weight world champion,” said Taylor when speaking to The Ring. “Chase some of these big, massive fights, that’s what I want to do. Go straight in with someone like Ugas, make a big statement.
“Hopefully become a unified world champion at welterweight, in an ideal world become undisputed. These are massive, massive goals and way down the line but it’s definitely possible. Go down as a hall of fame fighter, that’s what I want to do.”
