WBC super flyweight champion Juan Francisco Estrada is excited about the number of new possibilities with the emergence of new and dangerous fighters at 115lbs.
For almost a decade, names like Srinsaket Sor Rungvisai, Carlos Cuadras and Roman 'Chocolatito' Gonzalez dominated this division without allowing new stars to enter. But now, with the rise of Joshua Franco and Jessie Rodriguez, everything began to change.
However, before facing the new stars at super flyweight, Estrada wants to settle the score with Gonzalez who he has faced twice previously with the record currently standing at one win apeice.
"The fight with Roman Gonzalez is still on. We've had a bit of a battle on the dates, first he got the coronavirus, then me. And so far it hasn't happened. But we're looking at November or December," Estrada said in an interview with DAZN.
The Mexican is ending a long layoff and had to vacate the WBA title in order to keep the hopes of a trilogy fight with Gonzalez alive.
"I haven't fought for a year and four months, people are asking for the fight (with Gonzalez) and also monetarily I will do better than Joshua Franco or anyone else. Franco is a great fighter, there are a lot of rumours that I'm afraid to face him or Jesse Rodriguez, but at this level there is no fear of facing anyone. There are times when you have to make decisions you don't even want to make, like vacating the title, but sometimes those at the top make the moves," Estrada explained.
Following his split decision win over Roman Gonzalez last year, Estrada needed a break and decided to spend time with his family.
Now, with twins Juan Yadier and Francisco Yadiel, as well as his young daughter Eliette, he found the motivation to put on the gloves once more and prepare for the eagerly anticipated third clash with Gonzalez.
"I'm very happy. My four children are something that motivates me to keep going. Now I have to support all four of them and it's a great thing, it's given me energy. That's why I'm training very hard, because I want to give them a better life," Estrada concluded.
