Claressa Shields vs. Savannah Marshall
The biggest fight in women’s boxing and one that goes back to when both talented fighters were amateurs. Claressa Shields has only ever suffered one defeat in the boxing ring and that came at the hands of Savannah Marshall at the 2012 World Championships.
With that fight almost a decade old, the rivalry still exists today and it’s likely that the pair will renew hostilities in 2022. Both had been set to fight in separate bouts in December 2021 but when that show was pulled, it meant their feud was put on hold. It should resume in 2022 and when it does, it should be a memorable encounter.
Katie Taylor vs. Amanda Serrano
Eddie Hearn has long dreamed of staging Katie Taylor vs. Amanda Serrano at New York City’s famous Madison Square Garden and the British promoter could get his wish in 2022. A fight between the pair has been many years in the making and the chance to find out who is the better fighter could be just around the corner.
Taylor’s rise to undisputed champion has been one of boxing’s biggest success stories and with Serrano equally decorated at a variety of weight classes, this is a genuine super fight between two boxers on top of their game. Which fighter will take the win and add to their already impressive legacy?
Chantelle Cameron vs. Kali Reis
Hearn outlined his plans to crown an undisputed champion at super-lightweight last year and he should have that ruler when Chantelle Cameron and Kali Reis eventually face off in 2022. The latter impressed when defeating Jessica Camara in November and Cameron was equally brilliant when defeating Mary McGee the previous month.
With both fighters showing superb attributes in their victories, what we have is a well-matched fight that will give the 140lbs division a deserving champion. The battle is set to take place in the first half of 2022, and it’ll be a contest that will provide huge opportunities for the victor.
Jessica McCaskill vs. Katie Taylor/Amanda Serrano winner
Whoever emerges victorious in the likely encounter between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano can expect another tough encounter next if they decide to take on Jessica McCaskill. Since losing to Taylor in 2018, the St Louis fighter has responded brilliantly with a number of high-profile wins including two impressive victories over Cecilia Braekhus. Has she improved enough to defeat Taylor or Serrano?
Terri Harper vs. Natasha Jonas 2
Two fighters looking to make significant impact on the world stage are Terri Harper and Natasha Jonas, and what better way to mark their return to world title level by facing each other? In 2020, following boxing’s absence due to COVID-19, Harper and Jonas delivered a classic that was marred by controversy when Harper escaped with her world title when the bout was scored a draw despite Jonas appearing to have done enough.
Since that night, both fighters have endured more heartbreak. Jonas was defeated by Katie Taylor in May 2021 whilst Harper lost her world belt to Alycia Baumgardner in November of the same year. Can this quality pair put on another great battle as they march towards world title shots?
