Katie Taylor on the current state of women's boxing: 'There’s definitely still a long way to go'DAZN
The undisputed women's lightweight champion discussed the current state of women's boxing on The DAZN Boxing Show.

Katie Taylor's clash with Amanda Serrano for the undisputed lightweight title on April 30th is not just a historic moment for women's boxing, but for the sport of boxing as a whole.

With the fight taking place at Madison Square Garden, this could be the breakthrough moment women's boxing needs in order to be on equal footing with the men.

There have been calls to make this fight the first women's contest to be made up of 12 three-minute rounds, and while Taylor would be welcome to fighting three-minute rounds, there is one stumbling block.

"I’d have no problem with fighting three minute rounds, but I don’t think it’s right to fight 12 three-minute rounds on a 10 two-minute pay check," Taylor told The DAZN Boxing Show

"I have no problem fighting 15 three-minute rounds, if we get rewarded for it."

Women's fighter pay is often a topic of discussion when it comes to equality within the sport of boxing and despite having a large purse attached to the clash with Serrano on April 30th, there is still plenty that needs to be done in the eyes of the undisputed champion when it comes to pay.

"This fight is obviously a history making fight with the purses," Taylor said.

"I think for some of the other females they are still not getting paid as much as they should, we still have a long way to go I think.

"I’m obviously one of the lucky ones, I feel like I am getting rewarded for all my hard work, there’s definitely still a long way to go."
