Katie Taylor returns to Ireland on May 20 as her first professional fight in her homeland comes with huge danger attached due to the threat of the brilliant Chantelle Cameron.
The fight, being shown live on DAZN, represents a significant test for Taylor as she steps up to super-lightweight looking to become undisputed ruler at a second weight class in front of her adoring public.
Originally scheduled to be facing Amanda Serrano in an eagerly anticipated rematch following their epic battle in New York last year, Taylor’s plans now involve Cameron after an injury to Serrano forced her to withdraw.
Moving along impressively and becoming the complete fighter at 140lbs, Cameron has her backers in this fight, and despite the change of opponent, Taylor always believed that this fight was one day going to come.
“We always knew this fight was going to happen,” said Taylor when speaking to DAZN a few days away from her Irish homecoming. “I’ve had my eyes on Chantelle for a few years now.”
“It’s fight that I’ve always wanted for myself. To make the adjustment from Amanda Serrano to Chantelle Cameron was a fantastic one. This is a fight that I’m genuinely motivated for, and she is as well. I know I’m going to be at my very best.
“Some people are even saying that this fight will be better than the Amanda Serrano fight. I’m delighted it’s happening and I'm so happy that it could be made.”
