Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn will hold talks with MMA star Conor McGregor on Monday in the hopes of putting on a Katie Taylor vs. Amanda Serrano rematch at Croke Park.
Hearn has promised the undisputed lightweight champion that she will fight in Ireland in her next match-up, and that will be against Serrano on May 20, a date that is unlikely to be moved.
Taylor and Serrano fought in Madison Square Garden in April last year in one of the biggest fights of 2022, with such quality that there were immediate calls for a rematch, which will now be fulfilled.
Hearn is concerned that the costs of choosing Croke Park mean that the 3Arena is the likely candidate, but earlier revealed that McGregor was contemplating a sponsorship deal for the fight to put it on at the huge stadium venue.
"I'm talking to Conor about potentially bridging that gap," reported the BBC.
"But more importantly looking at why the costs are so high, can we overcome them in May, or can we all work together to do the first fight at the 3Arena, and then a September fight at Croke Park. whether that's Taylor-Serrano 3 or more than likely Chantelle Cameron.
"Our date is 20 May which is immovable because it's built around the (broadcast partner) DAZN schedule.
"So maybe that is at the 3Arena then in September we go to Croke Park."
Of McGregor, he said: "He loves Katie Taylor and he would love to help get it at Croke Park.”
