NEW YORK — On the eve of the biggest women's boxing fight of all time, undisputed lightweight champion of the world Katie Taylor and challenger Amanda Serrano stepped onto the scales at the official weigh-in mere yards from where they will make history as the first female headline bout at Madison Square Garden.
In what felt like one of the biggest pre-fight routine procedures ever staged, Irish and Puerto Rican fans tore the roof of the Hulu Theater as champion Taylor hit the scales at 134.6lbs, with challenger Serrano one pound lighter.
The duo were introduced by WWE superstars Becky Lynch (for Taylor) and Bianca Belair (for Serrano), and faced off post-weigh-in to the adrenaline-stoking sounds of Kashmir by Led Zeppelin played live on stage by violinists.
Elsewhere, things got testy between chief support fighters Jessie Vargas and Liam Smith, with Vargas being dragged away from the Brit following a barrage of taunts and threats.
