Larry Holmes has not been complimentary about the current leading heavyweights. Holmes, along with Mike Tyson, the best heavyweight of the 1980s, saw his lengthy career take in a number of eras, and he was still fighting in 2002 when Lennox Lewis sat on top of the pile.
With a stellar reputation due to legendary battles with Ken Norton, Earnie Shavers, Gerry Cooney and Michael Spinks, Holmes’ opinion on the heavyweight scene has always been well sought. With the modern-day fighters prepared to excel in 2022 due to the recent efforts of Tyson Fury, Deontay Wilder and Oleksandr Usyk, Holmes is still not convinced by today’s fighters.
“They don’t have no skills,” said Holmes when assessing Fury, Wilder and Anthony Joshua to Fight Hub.
“The fighters today are not the fighters that I fought. We fought the top ten and we didn’t duck nobody. Earnie Shavers, Gerry Cooney, Kenny Norton, all those strong guys. Today, the guys don’t fight.”
