Roy Jones may no longer be Chris Eubank Jr’s trainer but he’s backing his former fighter to gain revenge over Liam Smith on Saturday night.
Jones Jr. was in the corner back in January when Smith caused a minor upset by sensationally stopping Eubank Jr in the fight’s fourth session, but it’ll be Brian ‘BoMac’ McIntyre who’ll be guiding Eubank Jr this weekend.
Defeat for Eubank Jr could be catastrophic for his career and his hopes of securing future big fights will be severely impacted.
Despite moving on from Eubank Jr, Jones knows him well and he’s insistent that the Brighton man will be victorious if he applies himself in the correct manner.
“I think he [Eubank Jr] wins the fight,” said Jones when speaking to Sporting Post.
“When I got to camp last time, I told him, ‘You don't need me for this fight,’ and that might have been a mistake. I didn't feel that he needed me for the fight because it would have been better to fight Smith the old Chris Eubank way.
“You don't need to box Smith, you need to go out there and fight. You don't need me for this, you need you for this. You need to be the old Eubank and get down, right, dirty and fight.”
