COVID-19 throws a wrench into a highly anticipated fight between Campbell and Garcia.

The biggest fight of Ryan Garcia's young career is going to have to wait a bit longer.

Golden Boy Promotions announced on Tuesday that Luke Campbell has tested positive for COVID-19, and his scheduled interim WBC lightweight title clash against Garcia will no longer occur on Saturday, Dec. 5. Campbell's promotional outfit, Matchroom Boxing, and Golden Boy, who represent Garcia, are working on a securing a new date. 

The Garcia-Campbell bout, which was to take place at the Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, Calif., was set to be DAZN's first boxing event under the global platform that goes live Dec. 1. The launch will still proceed as scheduled. 

The 22-year-old Garcia (20-0, 17 KOs) was looking to make a definitive statement to the boxing world that he belongs in the upper echelon of the lightweight division after notching spectacular back-to-back knockouts over Romero Duno and Francisco Fonseca. Now he's going to have to wait a little bit longer to get his hands on the Englishman. 

Campbell (20-3, 16 KOs) is feeling well and is on the road to recovery, but the bout will be occuring at a later date. The 2012 Olympic gold medalist had been looking get back on track after losing a competitive decision to Vasiliy Lomachenko in August 2019.
