Major world champion without a defence in nearly three years is stripped of titleEd Mullholland/Matchroom
One fighter has lost his belt.

Jermall Charlo has endured a tough period after being arrested regarding numerous driving issues and then being stripped by the WBC as their middleweight champion.

Mauricio Sulaiman confirmed the news when the governing body issued a statement on their X account.

Charlo became WBC interim champion in 2018 and after being promoted to full champion, he made successful defences against the likes of Brandon Adams and Dennis Hogan.

Charlo’s last defence came in 2021 and he had recently been linked to a showdown with Canelo Alvarez.

The WBC have stated that they are ready to support Charlo, but in the meantime, they have named Carlos Adames as their new champion.
