Marcos Maidana walked away from boxing in 2014 following two fights against Floyd Mayweather.
The Argentinian puncher, a former world champion, fell just short in his two fights against the modern superstar, but he was content to leave boxing behind after a memorable run.
After shocking Victor Ortiz in 2009 to become interim world champion, Maidana aimed to upgrade against Amir Khan the following year when he was narrowly beaten on points.
A 2013 win over Adrien Broner in 2013 ensured he became welterweight world champion, and he credits the Cincinatti man as being the strongest opponent he ever faced.
“Adrien Broner. I know people think I gave him the beating of his life but trust me, Adrien is really strong,” said Maidana when speaking to The Ring in 2016.
The last round against him he came at me like a true warrior, asking for more and more.”
