Moorer fought many big hitters.

Michael Moorer was one of boxing’s best fighters during the 1990s as he tasted success at light-heavyweight and heavyweight.

Moorer’s incredible skillset saw him win world titles and compete at the highest level possible, but it was his fight with George Foreman in 1994 that he’s probably best remembered for.

Moorer was expected to defeat the veteran heavyweight, but Foreman found the perfect shot to end the bout as he became heavyweight champion two decades after first winning the crown.

As well as Foreman, Moorer also fought Evander Holyfield, but who does he credit as being the hardest puncher he faced?

“David Tua. There was a lot of big punchers. Francois Botha hit hard. Foreman hit hard – at that time he caught me with a good punch. Holyfield hit hard. Anyone, if they get hit the right way, will go,” said Moorer when speaking to The Ring

“Tua knew how to deliver the power, being more flatfooted than being on his toes and being that he kept a fist.

“Most boxers keep their hands open, and he knew the way he came in – short, stocky – and he had a good chin, but he could do the hitting as well.”
