Michael Spinks names the most defensive fighter he faced and it's not Mike Tyson or Larry HolmesDAZN
Mike Spinks had a great career.

Michael Spinks caused a sensational shock in the 1980s when he moved from 175lbs to heavyweight and defeated Larry Holmes to become world champion.

Spinks repeated the result in an immediate rematch but who was the most defensive fighter that Spinks came up against?

An Olympic gold medallist in 1976, Spinks joined the pro ranks and became one of the greatest light-heavyweights of all time.

After moving to the land of the giants, Spinks would have further success but that all ended when he suffered his only career loss in 1988 when he was stopped in one round by Mike Tyson.

Despite sharing the ring with both Holmes and Tyson, Spinks doesn't consider either man as the opponent he faced with the best defence.

That honour goes to Dwight Muhammad Qawi who Spinks defeated in 1983.

“Maybe Dwight. He was so close to the ground,” said Spinks when speaking to The Ring in 2016.

“When he bobbed and weaved, it was kind of hard to hit him. I attacked his body, shoulder, chest.”
