DAZN’s Mike Costello believes that Conor Benn’s upcoming fight with Chris Algieri will be his toughest fight yet.
Benn faces the American former champion on Saturday December 11, in a bout shown worldwide on DAZN.
Speaking on Friday at the weigh-in for Saturday’s clash, Costello explained to DAZN that Algieri is a durable and experienced opponent.
“As Conor’s been saying, there’s this theory he was tested by Sebastian Formella, he was tested by [Samuel] Vargas, but this time around he’s being tested by a man who was world champion, who’s been to the top of the sport and been in very good company,” he started.
“He was in there with Manny Pacquiao and floored six times. When he is hurt, he has the ability to come back. Very rarely has he been beaten comprehensively, so this is a severe test for Conor Benn. I expect him to come through it, but this could be his toughest night as a pro.”
Costello then suggested that if he were to stop his rival on Saturday in Liverpool, it would be his finest achievement yet.
“I think Algieri is clever enough to find his way to the final bell,” he said.
“If Conor Benn does do it inside the distance it will rank as his best win as a pro.”
