Natasha Jonas gives her verdict on Mikaela Mayer rematch after title victory

Natasha Jonas gives her verdict on Mikaela Mayer rematch after title victoryDAZN
The Briton won on Saturday night.

Natasha Jonas is open to a rematch with Mikaela Mayer after defeating the American on Saturday night.

The IBF welterweight champion retained her title in Liverpool with a tight, 96-95 96-94 93-97 split decision victory, and immediately after the fight, Mayer called for a rematch.

Jonas had a clause in her contract to force a rematch in the event she lost her belt, but Mayer is unable to enforce the reverse.

Speaking to Sky Sports, the 39-year-old veteran said that she could run it back, but she may look for something different.

"Anything is possible," she said.

"The fights that I thought winning tonight would keep the doors open for, obviously for me with so many limited fights left, they're the ones that I'm looking for.

"But if it's something that the fans want, I'm always happy to oblige.

"I know this girl here is going to be absolutely devastated with that result because I've been there and it feels like the world is over.

"She is in my top two people I've fought, she's a very skilled operator, her time will come again. She beats a lot of the champions that are already here.

"So please use that as motivation to go on and get the title that you deserve and become a two-weight world champion."
