Nathan Gorman for the British title is the main target for Fabio Wardley. The Ipswich heavyweight has made a huge impression on the division despite his limited experience and facing his domestic rival for national honours is what he wants in 2022.
This Saturday, Wardley will appear on the undercard of Derek Chisora’s rematch with Kubrat Pulev, live on DAZN , but his focus will switch to the Lonsdale title if victorious.
Last month, Gorman ended over a year’s inactivity as he defeated Tomas Salek in the fight’s opening round.
Immediately, talk centred on a clash with Wardley and with both men easily inside the top ten British rankings but not yet ready for the leading names operating at world level, a showdown for all the marbles at home appears the natural match-up. Wardley insists that it’s the fight that makes most sense.
“I want the fight with Nathan Gorman next, but I think he wants more time to get ready for it,” said Wardley when speaking to DAZN .
“The top six or seven guys in Britain are all looking at bigger things than the British title at the moment, so I think it’s down to me and Nathan. That’s the fight I want and I’m ready to do it after my next fight is out the way.
“It’s the best fight for us both. I’ve shown that I’m willing to fight anyone who’s put in front of me as I went in with Eric Molina a few fights before this one.
“There’s no one else who can fight for the British apart from me and Nathan. There’s the likes of Dave Allen and Kash Ali who are around the top ten, but I definitely think myself and Nathan is the only fight to make.”
