The WBO have a new champion.

Brian Norman Jr is the new WBO welterweight champion after Terence Crawford was stripped of the belt.

Norman, who has recently been linked to a showdown with Teofimo Lopez, was informed of the decision earlier this week and he’s speculated to be making his first defence later this year.

At the start of this month, Crawford successfully moved up to 154lbs with a close points win over Israil Madrimov.

The victory ensured Crawford is now a four-weight world champion following a successful spell at welterweight.

At 147lbs, Crawford was involved in some memorable bouts on his way to becoming undisputed champion and that included notable successes against Shawn Porter and Errol Spence.

Norman is now in possession of one of Crawford’s former belts and the American will be hoping he can emulate the Nebraska man by making a huge impact in the division.
