Nigel Benn was renowned for his incredible ring wars as he participated in numerous brutal battles as he became one of the biggest names in British boxing.
During an illustrious career played out with mainstream attention focused on it, Benn was a household name thanks to his legendary battles with Chris Eubank, but what was the toughest fight of his career?
A world champion in two weight classes, it wasn’t only Eubank who provided Benn with a stern examination.
Benn shared the ring with the likes of Michael Watson, Steve Collins, and Iran Barkley, but it’s Gerald McLellan who he credits with giving him his hardest night when Benn was victorious in a vicious encounter in 1995.
“Gerald McClellan, the hardest puncher by far,” said Benn when speaking with Through the Ropes.
“There was other good fighters that I fought. I fought a guy called Reggie Miller who was very skilful. Then you’ve got Chris [Eubank] who was a good boxer and a good puncher.”
