Denys Berinchyk's eyes lit up from being announced as the new WBO lightweight world champion in San Diego, California on Saturday night.
Oleksandr Usyk, who became the undisputed heavyweight world champion with a win over Tyson Fury earlier in the day, celebrated his fellow Ukraine countryman thousands of miles away in Saudi Arabia.
The moment he heard Berinchyk's name read as the winner, Usyk threw his hands in the air and cheered him on alongside his entire team.
Usyk and Berinchyk each had difficult paths to victory as Fury and Emanuel Navarrete proved to be resilient, complex opponents, respectively.
However, in the end, each Ukrainian fighter was given a split-decision nod by judges to cap a historical night for Ukraine boxing.
"This is my friend," Berinchyk told ESPN about Usyk winning a world championship on the same day. "This is great — great boxing, (great) fighters."
