We’re into single figures as we count down the days until Oleksandr Usyk’s eagerly anticipated rematch with Tyson Fury on December 21, live on DAZN Pay-Per-View.
Focusing on the number nine, there’s only one place we can revisit and that’s the legendary ninth round from the first fight.
Tyson Fury will have been satisfied with how the first eight rounds went when he looked to become undisputed champion earlier this year.
Fury had shown plenty of energy and his inside work saw him land some notable shots which led to numerous bouts of showboating.
After two thirds of the fight, Fury was very much in the fight on the scorecards, but what had happened in round nine would alter heavyweight history.
Usyk, sensing he had to change things, was far more aggressive and his bold approach would soon reap rewards.
A big left hand rocked Fury and after he retreated to the ropes, Usyk was in no mood to let him see the round out and immediately went in to attack Fury further.
Numerous shots found the target of Fury and after he was staggering around the ring for a sustained period, the referee decided to intervene.
Some believed that he was stopping the fight, a decision that might have been welcomed by some observers, but the third man instead gave Fury a standing count.

The bell would come to Fury’s rescue and prevent him from enduring further punishment, but the momentum of the contest had changed, and Usyk was now in control.
Fury entered round ten with many believing he was about to be taken out, but like all the other times he’s been hurt, Fury rallied well but he was still fighting a losing battle.
Adding to his already impressive legacy, Usyk was now heavyweight king, and it was the remarkable ninth round that helped him reach that gloried platform.
