Oleksandr Usyk reveals whether he was close to stopping Anthony JoshuaMatchroom Boxing

Oleksandr Usyk has hinted that he was near to scoring a knockdown against Anthony Joshua.

The heavyweight pair met last September in a bout that was dominated by the Ukrainian as he dazzled for 12 rounds before relieving Joshua of his world titles on the scorecards.

In the fight’s final session, Usyk, well ahead on the scorecards, exploded in the final minute and hurt Joshua, who retreated to the ropes.

The bell sounded to rescue the British fighter and ahead of his rematch with ‘AJ’ on August 20, Usyk has spoken about how close he was to stopping Joshua in the last round.

“Perhaps if there were another 30 seconds or another minute in the 12th round, Anthony would have been knocked down,” said Usyk when asked about the matter by Parimatch.

“I don’t think about it anymore because it’s just guessing. It happened as it happened. I boxed 12 rounds and I won.”
