Oleksandr Usyk paid a tribute to his late father after he became undisputed heavyweight champion.
Usyk beat Tyson Fury on Saturday night, live on DAZN , and he put on a performance for the ages in a fight where both men had their chances to make history.
The Ukrainian is now a two-time four-belt undisputed champion, first at cruiserweight and now at heavyweight.
Much of his journey has been missed by his father, who died before he got to see his son’s Olympic medal in the flesh.
In the lead-up to the fight in Saudi Arabia, Usyk has often talked of the relationship he had with his father.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the win, he discussed the support he felt, and then all his motivations - including his father.
He said: "I feel good. A lot of people prayed for me, I love you.
"I'm very happy.
"My people will be very happy I think, it's a big win, not only for me, it's a big win for my country, for soldiers who now defend my country.
"I think my father now is watching over me and is very happy. Dad, I love you. I can, you told me I can."
