Oscar De La Hoya has revealed the next target for Jaime Munguia and it’s not Canelo Alvarez or Edgar Berlanga.
Earlier this month, Munguia maintained his unbeaten run with a narrow points win over Sergey Derevyanchenko and now it looks like his promoter is intent on making a fight with David Benavidez.
For most fighters at 168lbs, the goal is a high-profile showdown with Canelo, but De La Hoya is eager to direct his fighter along a different route with Benavidez being the preferred name.
Munguia has been linked to many fights including a bout with Gennadiy Golovkin and with De La Hoya aiming to secure a huge contest, he’s taken to social media to identify the fight he wants for his man.
“Awesome news @jaimemunguia15 is very interested in fighting @Benavidez300,” wrote De La Hoya on his personal Twitter account.
“Looking forward to starting discussions in what could possibly be fight of the year!”
