Jaime Munguia impressed many with his recent stoppage win over John Ryder, but perhaps the most satisfied spectator was Oscar De La Hoya.
Munguia's promoter, the head of Golden Boy Promotions, has long been Munguia’s biggest supporter and he was beaming after watching his man drop Ryder four times before halting the bout in the ninth round.
The plan now for De La Hoya is to secure Munguia big fights in the near future and that will include aiming to land bouts with the likes of Canelo Alvarez and David Benavidez.
Immediately after the fight, De La Hoya, a former six weight world champion, jumped on social media to emphasise just how impressive Munguia’s win was.
“Statement made!!!!!!,” wrote De La Hoya on X as well as copying in Munguia’s handle.
With Ryder going the distance against the likes of Canelo Alvarez and Danny Jacobs, De La Hoya certainly has a point.
