Oscar De La Hoya says skill-wise this boxer is 'probably the best fighter on the planet today'Golden Boy / Cris Esqueda
It's someone the Golden Boy promoter would like to make a bout with soon.

After WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman ordered last month for Shakur Stevenson to defend his lightweight world championship against William Zepeda, Stevenson immediately took to his social media to ask Zepeda "what we doing?" while adding a yawning emoji to signal he's tired of waiting.

Oscar De La Hoya, who is Zepeda's promoter at Golden Boy, vows the fight will happen while also heaping praise onto Stevenson's sweet science skills.

"That fight, I don't think nobody will get in the way of that fight," De La Hoya recently began telling FightHype.com. "I'm Zepeda's promoter and I actually want to make that fight.

"I think Shakur, right now, skill-wise is probably the best fighter on the planet today," the boxing legend also declared without hesitation. "Tremendous, tremendous skills but he has to be able to sell tickets. His boxing style is not that friendly to sell tickets but I think that William Zepeda vs. Shakur Stevenson is a huge fight.

"It will happen."

The bout would pit two undefeated fighters against each other with the sound boxing skills of Stevenson (22-0, 10 KOs) lined up with the punching power of Zepeda (31-0, 27 KOs).

De La Hoya didn't put a timetable on it but assured boxing fans a date will be finalized.

"Eddie Hearn is not in the way of making that fight. I think the only one that's in the way of making that fight is me," he offered.

"But I'll tell you one thing — I will make that fight."
