Oscar De La Hoya has criticised UK boxing fans regarding a potential Canelo Alvarez vs. Chris Eubank Jr fight that could take place in 2025.
Speculation has intensified in recent days that Canelo Alvarez could fight in Britain for the first time with a Wembley showdown against Eubank Jr a strong possibility.
Canelo has faced his fair share of British opponents over the years including Callum and Liam Smith, Amir Khan, and Billy Joe Saunders, but all those fights have taken place in North America.
A big super-middleweight contest against the Eubank Jr would likely do huge business at the home of English football, but one influential fight figure isn’t impressed.

De La Hoya once had a great relationship with Canelo, but following a bitter split, the pair have taken numerous swipes at each other.
The boss at Golden Boy once promoted the Mexican icon and guided him to many world titles, but he’s hit out at the Eubank Jr fight selling out at Wembley and accused UK boxing supporters of not knowing the sport.
“It would sell out Wembley because UK fans don’t know s--- about boxing,” wrote De La Hoya on his X account.
The next moves of both Canelo and Eubank Jr are still not confirmed, but it’s obvious De La Hoya doesn’t approve of the contest.
