The former world champion has had his say on a current fighter.

Jaime Munguia announced himself at 168lbs this past weekend as he joins David Benavidez, and many other fighters, in pursuing a showdown with division ruler, Canelo Alvarez.

A ton of opportunities currently exist at super-middleweight with many boxers producing excellent performances on their way to proving their credibility.

Like Munguia, Benavidez has impressed in recent contests and those outings have led the Arizona man to constantly call for a battle with Canelo.

The Mexican icon is still one of boxing’s biggest draws, and with Benavidez more than worthy of a shot, Paulie Malignaggi has had his say on the matter.

“You’re talking about the biggest duck in boxing history. This is in your same weight class, and you are the champion,” said Malignaggi to ProBox TV regarding Canelo looking elsewhere for an opponent.

“Is Benavidez being ducked more blatantly than that? I think he is at this point. Munguia putting himself into the sweepstakes makes this weight class that much more difficult to manoeuvre if you’re a super middleweight.

“I don’t know if Canelo wants to manoeuvre in a difficult weight class at this point.”
