British cruiserweight Richard Riakporhe knocked Krzysztof Twardowski to the canvas in the last round of his first fight in nearly two years.
That fierce right hand helped him to a 79-72 points win, and the 31-year-old fighter had the Pole - six years his junior - on the back foot from the off.
As the fight progressed the pair exchanged body shots, and at one point Riakporhe had blood streaming from his nose, though he kept himself ahead throughout.
Despite the late knockdown, Twardowski was resilient enough to get back to his feet to take it to a judges’ decision.
The win has given Riakporhe the shot at a title of sorts, with the boxer set to take on Olanrewaju Durodola in a WBC Silver cruiserweight eliminator. The winner should then progress to a full title fight in 2022.
