Ricky Hatton’s exhibition bout with Marco Antonio Barrera scheduled for July 2 has been postponed.
The contest was set to take place on the same show as Hughie Fury’s intriguing heavyweight encounter with Michael Hunter, but with Fury recovering from illness, a new date for the event is set to be revealed.
Hatton’s return to boxing against the Mexican legend would follow Fury’s fight, but with Fury now unable to take part in the contest, Hatton’s wait to face his friend goes on. For Fury, he must also remain patient as he looks to climb the heavyweight rankings and secure himself another world title shot.
“Boxing fans all over the world have been looking forward to this fight and so have the two fighters,” said Ben Shalom, the show's promoter, to Sky Sports.
“Nobody will be more disappointed than Hughie Fury and Michael Hunter by today’s news, but health is more important than anything. We wish Hughie a speedy recovery while we arrange a new date for this bout in Manchester.”
