Robert Garcia is ready to prepare Vergil Ortiz for a rematch with Serhii Bohachuk if a fight with Terence Crawford can’t be secured.
The pair clashed earlier this month in a thrilling battle that saw Ortiz climb off the mat twice to register a close points victory.
With the win, Ortiz announced himself as a serious threat at 154lbs, but it was also a fight that saw Bohachuk’s stock increase.
The quality of the contest would ensure a second meeting would be greatly appreciated, and Garcia, Ortiz’s coach, has given his thoughts on the idea.
“The rematch is something we could also consider,” said Garcia when speaking to BoxingScene in the post-fight press conference.
“It was a great fight. It was a very close fight. So definitely, if the offer’s there and Crawford’s not available, then why not rematch?
“Definitely Serhii deserves a rematch. He fought his a-- off, too. He came in and surprised the world.”
