Anthony Joshua's new coach, Robert Garcia, is confident he can make the former Olympian a three-time unified heavyweight champion of the world.
Speaking at the launch press conference for Joshua's rematch with WBA, WBO, and IBF champion Oleksandr Usyk on August 20, Garcia revealed that he has been traveling to England to help out with Joshua's preparations since December and believes his fighter has the necessary attributes to overcome the Ukrainian.
"I see a different Anthony, the way he thinks, the way he talks, everything he’s practicing in the gym," Garcia said. "I think he fought the wrong fight. That’s the past. Usyk was the better man. Congratulations to him, but come August 20, we’re going to do whatever it takes to win those titles back. I know he can do it. He’s the bigger man, the stronger man. He’s got the reach advantage, so we’re going to take advantage of all that."
Since the loss to Usyk last September, it was back to the drawing board for Joshua. He was pictured in numerous U.S. gyms over the past few months, including that of Eddy Reynoso, the cornerman behind Canelo Alvarez's success.
The decision to enlist the services of Garcia also means that Robert McCracken, who has been Joshua's coach since he turned professional in 2013, has now been replaced as the prominent voice in AJ's corner.
"Come that day (of the fight), I think without a doubt we’re going to have a three-time heavyweight champion of the world," Garcia said confidently.
