The year 2023 for Anthony Joshua is one that requires a rebuild.
After two back-to-back losses to unified world heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk, Joshua is now looking to instil some confidence in his ability and prove that he is still one of the top talents in a stacked heavyweight division.
One part of this rebuild for Joshua is to find a new trainer after stints with Robert McCracken and Robert Garcia, and it's believed that the Olympic gold medalist is set to link up with Errol Spence Jr's trainer Derrick James for his next fight.
One man that was potentially in the running was boxing legend Roy Jones Jr, but despite not getting the nod, he believes that James is the right man to train Joshua and return him to the top of the heavyweight tree.
"Derrick James is a great trainer, he's doing great things with Errol Spence, he's achieving more than people ever thought he would, so I think James will be a great trainer, that's why I told him if the chemistry is good he should stick with it," Jones Jr told Vegas Insider.
“I think James is the right man for the job and can help Joshua with his confidence and his game.
“The way that Spence fights with the pressure, I think he will be a great teacher for Joshua because he does need to learn how to apply the pressure, he's most dangerous when he applies that pressure.
“That's why I think it will be the right fit. If I knew he was considering James in the beginning I would have told him straight away James will be a good fit.”
Jones Jr meanwhile has one of his own fighters, Chris Eubank Jr, involved in a huge domestic matchup on Saturday night in Manchester when he takes on Liam Smith live on DAZN (U.S., Canada, DACH and Japan only).
