In the build-up to his fight against Caleb Plant for the undisputed super-middleweight championship of the world this coming Saturday, Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez gave stabelmate Ryan Garcia a reality check when it came to the 23-year-old's boxing career.
Now, Matchroom boss Eddie Hearn has given his verdict on Canelo's recent comments on the latest episode of The DAZN Boxing Show .
"I'm sure Canelo told Ryan Garcia face to face. It's not like he's just come up with something for the media, he's not going to mince his words," Hearn told Ak and Barak.
"I think it's no secret in the sport of boxing that from a dedication point of view, Ryan Garcia is not the top of that list."
"He's had his problems and we respect that, but the reality is he doesn't work as hard as a lot of fighters and one of those being Canelo Alvarez."
Hearn then questioned whether the Eddy Reynoso gym is the right environment for Garcia due to his huge social media following.
"They have an ethos in their gym where hard work is everything," Hearn explained.
"If you're not prepared to put the work and effort in, you're not welcome in the Canelo / Reynoso gym, it's no boxing, no life."
"It's not a social media party, boxing is everything and you've seen the dedication Canelo Alavrez has put into his career, and with all the achievements and his legacy, he still works as hard as he does now."
