Ryan Garcia said he is hoping for a rematch against Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis despite losing to the unbeaten fighter on Saturday night.
In a clash shown live on DAZN in what may be seen as the biggest fight of 2023 so far, the two contenders faced off in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Garcia was put down once already before ‘Tank’ delivered a brutal body shot in the seventh round, and while it took a beat to show its effect on the 24-year-old, he could not help but take a knee and was counted out.
That settled the speculation between the two fighters’ sets of fans, but after the match-up, Garcia described being in the ring with Davis as an “honour” and they posed for a photo to suggest that any beef has - for now - been dealt with.
Such a situation might change should Davis acquiesce for a rematch, something that Garcia said on Twitter was his aim.
“Nothing like fighting one of the best!” he tweeted, adding: “Hopefully one day we can run it back!”
Given Davis might have to wait for a shot at lightweight champion Devin Haney, who has Vasily Lomachenko lined up for a title fight, a rematch might be on the cards down the line.
