Ryan Garcia revisited his recent disagreements with Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez as he criticised the Mexican’s performance against Dmitry Bivol.
Canelo lost over 12 rounds to the WBA light heavyweight champion on Saturday night in Las Vegas, and while the undisputed super middleweight champion believes he did enough to win and wants a rematch, many observers believed that Bivol was the worthy winner - and Garcia was one of them.
The former WBC interim lightweight champion used to train with Canelo at Eddy Reynoso’s gym, but the pair fell out when Canelo hinted that he expected more from Garcia. Shortly after, Garcia departed to train with Joe Goossen instead.
In his most recent fight, he recorded a comeback win over Emmanuel Tagoe at a catchweight of 139lbs to end 15 months of inactivity.
Garcia has downplayed the disagreement with Canelo when asked, but later discussed them on Saturday.
“Canelo is losing as of right now,” he said in his first tweet, before starting to level criticism at his former colleague.
“Canelo lost fairly easy, only way I see Bivol losing is if the judges decide to steal it from him. You can’t win just hitting the arms they aren’t scoring blows.
“Congratulations Bivol you are a great dedicated and disciplined fighter. Great performance!!!! #CaneloBivol”
"Some of you are thinking Like i disrespected canelo he’s a legend and a great fighter, simply gave an honest assessment of the fight and gave props to Bivol, what is some of you on about????"
Garcia then ended his observations with: “Yeah that last tweet was a dig at canelo?? I’m human so what, he said some shady s— about me cry me a river”.
