A Devin Haney rematch will not be next for Ryan Garcia claims, his promoter Oscar De La Hoya, with an incumbent world champion instead in the pipeline.
Since appearing at Saturday's The Ring awards and a subsequent confrontation with Conor Benn, speculation has been rife as to who the star could face.
A fight with Benn would bring more British eyes to Garcia's talent, but it looks like a bout with current WBO and The Ring super-lightweight Teofimo Lopez is next for "King Ry".
Speaking to Fight Hub TV, De La Hoya dismissed any hopes of a Haney rematch after claiming that Garcia 'destroyed' the former undisputed lightweight champion.
“Me personally, I see no need for it. Ryan destroyed him, and that’s the bottom line," he said. "We have to make the best fights possible.
"There are fighters that we can match up Ryan with anyone and make a terrific event.”
Haney and Garcia met in a heated bout last April which the latter won by majority decision, but this result was subsequently declared a no-contest after Garcia failed a drugs test.
De La Hoya then explained why a Lopez-Garcia fight is one which needs to be made.
"Yeah, absolutely. If [Garcia and Lopez] are the best at the moment, and that’s what people want to see, we have to make it,” he continued.
“I sound like a broken record here but I was once a fighter. I’m a promoter now, but I think like a fighter and I want to see the best fight the best."
