Ryan Garcia would beat Devin Haney, Luke Campbell claimsDAZN
The WBC interim champion appears to be looking past a fight for the outright title

Luke Campbell believes that Ryan Garcia made a mistake in not exercising his option to fight WBC champion Devin Haney.

Garcia was Campbell’s most recent opponent, with the 30-year-old Briton becoming the first professional fighter to send the 22-year-old Californian to the canvas.

The American was able to recover and ultimately defeat Campbell, earning his place as the interim WBC champion, which would have allowed him a fight against Haney, with Haney telling the DAZN Boxing Show that he thinks Garcia is ducking him.

Instead he mooted fights with Manny Pacquiao and Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis, and has ultimately settled on meeting Javier Fortuna next.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Campbell said: "I'm not sure why he went for that fight when he could have gone straight for the world title.

"He would beat Haney. Haney would try to make it a boring fight but Garcia would beat him."

Despite his own defeats, Campbell still hopes to become a world champion in the division.

"The same goal is still there but the path has changed," he said.

"I still want to fight the best - I've already fought two three-weight world champions and a potential pound-for-pound top fighter.

"I never shy away from the best fighters like a lot of other people do."
