Ryan Garcia’s father Henry Garcia seems optimistic that his son will soon be taking on Gervonta "Tank" Davis.

While both of them have operated at lightweight in the recent past, Tank has won titles at 140lbs, and Garcia has confirmed he has no intention of returning to 135lbs for the rest of his career.

This fight, should it come to pass, has been in the works for the best part of two years. Indeed after his January 2021 victory over Luke Campbell to become WBC interim lightweight champion - since vacated - Garcia facetimed Tank as the two talked up a potential clash.

Since then the pair of them have been occupied with a number of other fights but they remain two of the most prominent stars at super lightweight. With Josh Taylor’s decision to focus on a Jack Catterall rematch instead of retaining his undisputed status, the belts at 140lbs could be tempting for both Davis and Garcia if they establish themselves in the division.

BoxingScene.com reports that the two fighters have sat down for discussions recently, and it appears that after they both tweeted ‘done deal’ that they are positive on the chances of a fight being made.

Talking about the fight to the website, Garcia Sr. said: “We’ve prepared for this fight that everybody wants.

“It’s very, very close to being announced. There’s just a few things that need to be ironed out. But for the most part, we're like in the high 90 percent ratio.

“I can’t give those details out but I can say for sure that it’s going to happen. I’m telling you right now, that is our next fight.”

Most recently Tank took on Rolly Romero at the end of May, winning with a sixth-round stoppage.

Garcia meanwhile defeated Javier Fortuna, also after six rounds.
