Sam Jones admits he does not want Tyson Fury to retire following the former heavyweight world champion's sudden announcement, adding he hopes to see him make a U-turn.

The Gypsy King announced he was hanging up his gloves this month, a handful of weeks after a second career loss to Oleksandr Usyk in their rematch in Riyadh.

The news came amid speculation Fury would possibly seek to finally settle the score with domestic rival Anthony Joshua in a propsed super-bout, with the two yet to meet in the ring.

Now promoter Jones has professed his hopes that the star may be persuaded to walk back his decision for one last dance that can be "the biggest in boxing".

"I don't know if he has," he told The Stomping Ground. "I don't want him to retire. I want him to fight Anthony Joshua, then retire. Probably both of them, to be fair.

"I'm a huge Anthony Joshua fan. I know Tyson very well. I want to see them both fight before they hang their gloves up.

"But if that is Tyson's lot, then you respect it and say congratulations of a hall of fame career. Good luck to him, good luck to his family. He's had an amazing career.

"[He's been an] amazing fighter. I don't think he needed to do it as a negotiation tactic because the fight is already the biggest in boxing. It is, commercially, the biggest fight in boxing.

"People negotiate their separate deals. He's very impulsive. If that's his lot, we have to respect it, but if it isn't, we hope he can do a U-turn very quickly."
