Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez: I want my legacy to be as the best of all timeAmanda Westcott/SHOWTIME
The Mexican fighter is not limiting his options as he attempts to be remembered as the best.

Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez is fully focused on his fight with Caleb Plant but wants to finish his career recognised as one of the best of all time.

The pair fight on Saturday with the IBF belt in Alvarez’s sights, and he spoke exclusively to DAZN’s Ak and Barak ahead of the showdown.

Alvarez was asked if he thought any fighters who called him out really believed they could beat him.

“I don’t know, ask them. I don’t think about that, I am thinking about me, what I need to do in the ring. I just need to do my thing and I don’t care what they think or feel,” he said.

Reflecting on the confrontation and blows he shared in an early press conference with Plant, Canelo said he felt something was going to boil over.

He said: “When I saw him walk like that, yes, I know it’s something. Something is coming, for sure.”

With Anthony Joshua looking for new trainers, the three-belt champion admitted, “Why not?” when asked if he would spar with the heavier man. He may also move up the divisions should he beat Plant.

Asked about the cruiserweight division, he refused to rule it out, saying: “I like challenges, I’m not going to say no, one day maybe.”

He had more to say about a potential light heavyweight showdown against Dmitry Bivol or Artur Beterbiev, explaining: “I like challenges, that kind of adrenaline. I decided it’s too much advantage for them. I think Bivol is a better boxer.”

Looking ahead more generally, he would not, however, give any details on his future as he did not want to get sidetracked from the task in hand. Asked if he wanted to be considered not just one of the best Mexican fighters of all time, but one of the very best ever, he said:

“It’s very important. That’s why I’m here [to be the best in the world].  I want to be one of the best fighters in the world. I don’t want to worry about it, at the end of my career the numbers are going to happen.”

The Canelo vs. Plant fight will not air on DAZN. However, The DAZN Boxing Show will be in Las Vegas during fight week for live episodes, exclusive interviews and more.
