Shakan Pitters called for more title fights after securing the WBC international light heavyweight belt with a win over Reece Cartwright on Saturday.
A huge right hand from Pitters - a former British light heavyweight champion - stopped Cartwright in the eighth round, helping him to a victory as he trailed on the scoresheets.
Cartwright started the brighter of the two but Pitters had come back into the fight, crowning his resurgence with a win by stoppage at the Skydome in Coventry.
Cartwright was back to his feet at the count of eight, but referee John Latham called time on the fight despite the end of the round being a fraction of a second away.
Speaking after the fight, Pitters celebrated a tough victory. BoxingScene.com reported him saying:
“I knew he was going to be mentally tough, I knew there would be times when I would have to bite down on my gumshield and fight.
“I enjoyed it. I want to keep going forward and challenging for titles.”
